Bilim, Teknoloji, Toplum Muhabbetleri etkinlik serisinin ilk konuğu Tactical Mediakurucularından Hollandalı medya teorisyeni ve internet eleştirmeni Geert Lovink. Bu etkinlikte Geert Lovink’in Otonom Yayınları tarafından Türkçeye kazandırılan Sosyal Medyanın Dipsiz Kuyusu adlı kitabından yola çıkarak sosyal medyanın bilgi / iktidar üretimiyle ilişkisi eleştirel bir perspektifle irdelenecek. Sosyal medyanın toplumsal çatışmalar ve güç ilişkilerinin inşasında oynadığı role odaklanarak, hem onun karşısında hem de onunla birlikte daha demokratik ve özgür bir toplumsallığı nasıl kurabileceğimiz tartışılacak.
Dutch media theorist and internet critic Geert Lovink is the first guest of the event series entitled Science, Technology, Society Talks. In this event, the relation of social media to power-knowledge production will be discussed from a critical perspective on the basis of Geert Lovink’s book Social Media Abyss, which is recently translated into Turkish and published by the Otonom Press. By focusing on the role of social media in the construction of power relations and social conflicts, the ways to construct a democratic and free society with and against social media will be discussed.

Geert Lovink Hollandalı bir medya teorisyeni, internet eleştirmeni ve Uncanny Networks (2002), Dark Fiber (2002), My First Recession (2003), Zero Comments (2007), Networks Without a Cause (2012) ve Social Media Abyss (2016) kitaplarının yazarıdır. 2004 yılında Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences kapsamında Institute of Network Cultures’ı kurmuştur. Bu kurum konferanslar yapmakta, yayınlar çıkarmakta ve Video Vortex (çevirimiçi video), Unlike Us (sosyal medya alternatifi), Critical Point of View (Wikipedia), Society of the Query (arama kültürü), MoneyLab (sanatta internet-temelli gelir modeli) gibi araştırma ağları kurmaktadır. Son dönem projeleri dijital yayınlar ve sanat eleştirisinin geleceği ile ilgilidir. Lovink aynı zamanda European Graduate School’da (Saas-Fee/Malta) doktora öğrencilerine danışmanlık yapmaktadır.
Ebru Yetişkin 1999 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Radyo-TV-Sinema Bölümü’nden mezun oldu. Louis Pasteur Üniversitesi ve İstanbul Teknik Üniversite’sinde Bilim, Teknoloji, Toplum yüksek lisansını tamamladıktan sonra Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi Sosyoloji Bölümü’nde “B(ağ)sal Düşünce” başlıklı teziyle doktora derecesini aldı. 2015 yılında doçent ünvanını kazanan Yetişkin’in küratöryal araştırmaları arasında Kakofoni(2013), Bilinmeyen Kod(2014), Dalgalar(2015), İllüzyonoskop(2017), Arayüzler(2018) sergileri ile Bulaşan Bedenler: Ağ Siyaseti(2015-2016) ve Günümüz Sanatı // Bir Başkagibi kamuya açık etkinlik serileri yer almaktadır. Editörlüğünü yaptığı yayınlar ise Toplumbilim: Postkolonyal Düşünce Özel Sayısıve şair robot Deniz Yılmaz’ın Diğerleri Gibiadlı kitabıdır. 2003 yılından beri Ebru Yetişkin, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü’nde eğitim ve araştırma faaliyetlerini sürdürmektedir.

Geert Lovink is a Dutch media theorist, internet critic and author of Uncanny Networks (2002), Dark Fiber (2002), My First Recession (2003), Zero Comments (2007), Networks Without a Cause (2012) and Social Media Abyss (2016). In 2004 he founded the Institute of Network Cultures at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. His center organizes conferences, publications and research networks such as Video Vortex (online video), Unlike Us (alternatives in social media), Critical Point of View (Wikipedia), Society of the Query (the culture of search), MoneyLab (internet-based revenue models in the arts). Recent projects deal with digital publishing and the future of art criticism. He also teaches at the European Graduate School (Saas-Fee/Malta) where he supervises Ph.D. students.
Ebru Yetişkin received her bachelor degree from the Department of Radio-TV-Cinema, Faculty of Communication at Istanbul University. After she completed her MA studies in the Program of Science, Technology, Society at UniversitéLouis Pasteur and Istanbul Technical University, she received her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Sociology at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with her dissertation entitled Nettachmental Thought. Yetişkin was awarded an Associate Professorship in 2015, and her research include: the exhibits entitled Cacophony(2013), Code Unknown(2014), Waves(2015), Illusionoscope (2017), Interfaces (2018) as well as the public event series such Contagious Bodies: Network Politics (2015-2016) and Today’s Art: Yet Another. She edited a number of publications including, the special issue on Postcolonial Thinking published by Toplumbilim and a book of poetry, Like The Others, written by a robot named Deniz Yılmaz. Since 2003, Ebru Yetişkin continues her research and teaching activities at the Social Sciences Institute of Istanbul Technical University.
